NE-4 Toll Rates — Delhi–Mumbai Expressway

Most Indian highways still use open tolling — a fixed barrier plaza roughly every 60 km where every vehicle pays the same amount regardless of how far it actually travelled between plazas. NE-4 works differently. It uses a closed, distance-based system: overhead gantries at every interchange read your FASTag as you enter and again as you exit, and the toll charged is calculated on the exact kilometres you drove between those two points. Drive 40 km and you pay for 40 km; drive 400 km and you pay for 400 km — nobody pays a flat fee for a short hop, and nobody gets a free ride on a long one.

This is also why the per-km rate table above matters more on NE-4 than the flat rupee amounts quoted at a typical highway toll booth. Your actual toll for any trip is simply (kilometres travelled) × (per-km rate for your vehicle category). The five vehicle categories — from private cars up to over-sized vehicles — exist because heavier axle loads cause proportionally more wear on the pavement, which is standard practice on Indian toll roads generally, not something specific to NE-4.

The temporary 50% reduction, in effect on sections that opened while still under construction, is applied at the rate level, so it automatically lowers every trip's cost without commuters needing to do anything beyond holding a valid, linked FASTag. Once a full stretch is formally commissioned, expect the reduction on that stretch to be phased out and standard per-km rates to apply.
